Our history
Foundation
- 1981
Fritz Ruck founds Fritz Ruck Ophthalmologische Systeme GmbH. With 5 employees, the company focusses on the import, distribution and service of ophthalmic surgical products from the USA, Switzerland and the Netherlands.
Microchiroptera operating system
- 1987
Takeover by Michael Ruck
- 1990
After the death of the company founder, his son Michael Ruck takes over the management of the company and completely stops importing ‘foreign’ surgical devices.
OMNI operating system
- 1991
The first in-house OMNI operating system is introduced, making Fritz Ruck the market leader in Germany for a time. Exports to neighbouring countries begin and the number of employees rises to over 20.
Spin-off of the company BYTEC
- 1995
In order to establish itself in other areas of medical technology, primarily cardiac surgery, the development team separated from Fritz Ruck. However, the now independent company ‘BYTEC’ continues to work closely with Fritz Ruck to this day.
The first device developed by BYTEC is the OMNI 2, optionally with a dual pump system (venturi & roller pump), as the successor to the OMNI 1 (only with venturi pump).
Presentation PentaSys
- 1998
The successor to the OMNI, the PentaSys, is introduced. Due to the low quantities and high technical standards, production is transferred to BYTEC. The resources freed up strengthen sales and service.
New partner: IOLTECH
- 2001
The French company IOLTECH / La Rochelle is acquired as a partner for the worldwide marketing of the PentaSys. Ruck concentrates on the domestic market and BeNeLux.
New focus
- 2002
Focus on sales and service in the domestic market. The sales force and office staff are expanded and 25 employees look after German ophthalmic surgeons.
The first commercial products are added.
Successor device PentaSys 2
- 2004
Consistent expansion of the product range and presentation of the successor to the PentaSys 1, the PentaSys 2 (facelift).
The sales partner for the global market, the French company IOLTECH, is taken over by Zeiss and is not interested in continuing to sell the PentaSys. Ruck therefore has to set up another export department for the global market.
25 years of Ruck
- 2006
Successor device QUBE
- 2011
Gemeinsam mit dem neuen Partner Croma, wird das QUBE als reines Kataraktgerät entwickelt.
Move to new company headquarters
- 2013
Der Neubau wurde notwendig, da RUCK mit mittlerweile ca. 70 Mitarbeitenden an zwei Standorten nicht mehr effektiv arbeiten konnte.
New QUBE pro device
- 2014
The QUBE pro front/rear cut-off unit is presented at the beginning of the year.
Another RUCK partnership with a global player comes to an end at the end of the year.
Croma is sold to Valleant and as Valleant is also the owner of Bausch & Lomb, the worldwide distribution of the Qube and Qube Pro systems goes back to RUCK.
Acquisition of Ruck by Hoya corp.
- 2019
After 5 independent years, RUCK is taken over 100% by HOYA.
Introduction Eyeflexa
- 2020
The first joint project with HOYA is the presentation of the QUBE pro successor Eyeflexa.
Repurchase of the Fritz Ruck company by Michael Ruck
- 2023
HOYA decides to withdraw from the appliance business. The Fritz Ruck company is bought back by Michael Ruck.
Restart of Fritz Ruck company
- 2024
RUCK is relaunching with the remaining, long-standing RUCK employees and some new faces with a lot of experience from the industry.
